NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Derrick Jones More/Less Than 14 Points + Rebounds

The Mavs’ roster is a hodgepodge of role players once you get past Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Jason Kidd seems to trust PJ Washington, but his rotation beyond those three has been inconsistent, at best. One player that has played more than expected is Derrick Jones, who’s logged at least 27 minutes in each of the last 3 games.

Jones played a vital role in the Mavs’ big comeback in Game 4, even if it proved fruitless. In a series-high 33 minutes, Jones contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds. He’s not a high-usage player – he hasn’t attempted more than 9 shots in a game thus far – but he made the most of his limited looks on Sunday.

If Jones’ shots aren’t falling tonight, his minutes could certainly decline with this being such an important game. We have Jones projected to play 30 minutes, but someone like Josh Green could eat into his playing time if he’s playing well. Even if Jones does crack 30 minutes again, he’s no guarantee to put numbers on the board.

Derrick White More/Less Than 31 Fantasy Points

It was only a matter of time until Derrick White had a game, and he did exactly that in the Celtics’ Game 4 victory. White poured in a game-high 38 points on blistering 15-for-26 shooting from the field as the Celtics wiped the floor with the shorthanded Heat on Monday.

He’s been steadily productive in the series, averaging better than a fantasy point per minute while logging at least 31 minutes in every game. There’s clear blowout risk in tonight’s matchup, with Boston listed as a 14-point home favorite, but at least White and the Celts are likely to be on the right side of things if the game does get out of hand early.

White has played a more prominent offensive role in this series than he did during the regular season. His usage is up to 21% through the first 4 games after it was down in the 19% range during the regular season.

James Harden More/Less Than 28.5 Points + Rebounds

James Harden is no longer the usage king he was during his Houston heyday, but we have seen him turn back the clock a couple of times in this series. He’s scored at least 20 points in each of the first 4 games, but he’s been more aggressive in terms of seeking his own shot in the 2 games the Clips have played without Kawhi Leonard.

In 2 games with Kawhi, Harden’s averaging 21.5 points on 13.5 field goal attempts per game. In the 2 games without Kawhi, he’s up to 30.5 points and 17 shot attempts per game. Harden isn’t getting to the line nearly as much as he did earlier in his career though, which makes his scoring output much more dependent on his perimeter shooting.

This one will be a sweat, but I like Harden to get there again in a high-usage role with the Clippers still missing Kawhi for Game 5.
